After a few weeks on the road and some disappointing results, it’s been pleasing to get back in front of loyal fans at Perth Arena and gather some momentum.
We’ve won three games on the trot by adhering to our defensive philosophies, using great ball movement and playing with plenty of intent and desire.
Our 84-74 win against Cairns Taipans on Monday was heartening in that we had valuable contributions from a variety of players.
Shawn Redhage stepped up in the absence of Casey Prather and really set the tone.
Nate Jawai was a dominant force in the post and Matty Knight was an absolute warrior, racking up another double-double.
We must say thank you to the Cairns Taipans and fans from both teams in helping us raise money on the night for victims of the bushfires.
It looks like we’ll raise well over $15,000. Fans can head to www.forthesw.com.au to bid on game- worn memorabilia to help us raise more money.
This week’s game has us taking on Melbourne United, who share the same record as us and are looking to steal our spot at the top of the ladder.
With so many potent weapons in Chris Goulding, Daniel Kickert, Stephen Holt and Todd Blanchfield, there will be plenty of emphasis on defensive assignments.
They have Hakim Warrick coming off the bench and what a luxury that is to have an NBA veteran providing offensive prowess off the pine.
Hopefully we can win four in a row.
