SCHOOL kids can get a taste of martial arts for free these school holidays.

WA Institute of Martial Arts in Currambine, Greenwood and Myaree is offering free training to all children aged three to 17 until February 3.

Classes run each day, with activities including bully defence and confidence building.

Manager and head instructor Luke Pearson said the initiative was to urge children and their parents to “get off the video games and come punch a bag”.

“Martial Arts is a great form of exercise, builder of self-confidence and a great way to make friends,” he said.

“Obesity is our number one health issue in Australia and if kids don’t learn how to take control of this and take responsibility, we will have a national crisis to deal with.”
