JOONDALUP appears in control against Gosnells heading into the second day of the WA Premier Cricket clash at Iluka.

The visitors are yet to bat when play resumes on Saturday, with the Hawks chasing 268.

The Centurions made an adequate start to their innings, sitting at 3-74, before Clint Hinchliffe (53) found a partner in captain Michael Johnson (91).

The pair put the match firmly in Joondalup’s grasp with a superb 124-run partnership.

Johnson’s dismissal triggered a mini middle-order collapse as Joondalup lost three wickets in the space of one run.

But Jake Zsilinszky (36) finished with a flourish to provide some lower order highlights.

Matthew Leipold and Aaron Kervern-Onyon provided a solid option in attack for Gosnells, taking three wickets each.

Joondalup then focused its attention on Melville and dangerous former Test batsman Adam Voges for Sunday’s T20 clash.

Despite running out seven-run winners, Joondalup struggled for momentum in its innings. Sitting on 3-36, Johnson (42) continued his good weekend form when he and Thomas Russell (16) put on a 45-run partnership.

The Centurions finished with a lowly 9-107 after Thomas Kerr-Sheppard left the visitors reeling with figures of 5-20.

Although Melville was in a perfect position to attack the run chase, Joondalup’s bowlers shared the load with Harry Larmett (2-12) taking the prized wicket of Voges (22) as the Storm fell short at 9-100.
