WANNEROO began the year on the front foot with a convincing one day victory over Midland-Guildford in WA Premier Cricket.

But the Roos couldn’t complete a perfect double-header weekend, losing to Unviersity on Sunday despite a century from Rob Richards (103).

Against Midland-Guildford, the Roos amassed 278 led by 86 from Dan Lawrence, who was supported by Mitch McGee’s 57 at Kingsway Sporting Complex on Saturday.

The visitors’ Jordan Mast toiled hard for 66 but none of his teammates could score more than 20 as his side fell for 183 in a 95-run loss.

Lawrence confirmed he was best afield with a three-wicket haul to add to his game-high effort with the bat.

Midland-Guildford’s Stewart Walters and Corry Verco took three wickets each.

Wanneroo produced a decent effort with 232 against an Ashton Agar-boosted University but the hosts sneaked home in the final over with three wickets to spare.

Agar took 4-42 and scored 23, while captain Matthew Birrell hit 64.

Wanneroo is 13th after the win and loss.
