JOONDALUP produced a solid opening to its WACA Premier cricket season with a three-wicket win over South Perth on Saturday.
Bowling first, the Centurions allowed the visitors little leeway at Iluka Sports Complex, with their experienced bowling line-up restricting last season’s ninth-place finishers to 7-161.
Josh Anderson claimed 3-29 from his 10 overs, while spinner Ty Hopes (2-32) and tireless pace bowler James Boyland (1-37) also impressed.
South Perth’s Darius D’Silva top scored with 42.
The hosts comfortably completed the pursuit in the 36th over, Garrick Morgan hitting an unbeaten 81 from 109 deliveries with 10 fours.
Morgan opened the batting with younger brother and WA rookie Jaron, who was dismissed early for a duck.
The reigning premiers face Wanneroo at Kingsway in one of the earliest northern derbies in recent years on Saturday.
