WACA Premier Cricket: Midland-Guildford’s Walters punishes Joondalup

Staff WriterJoondalup Times

STEWART Walters led Midland-Guildford to an unlikely victory over reigning premiers Joondalup with an amazing 154 not out in WACA Premier Cricket on Saturday.

Joondalup went into the game highly fancied to take the points at Iluka Sports Complex, but 34-year-old Walters had other ideas.

The Centurions batted first and did so superbly, amassing a huge score of 6-296 at the end of 50 overs, led by Jaron Morgan’s 124.

Hayden Cobley was again impressive for Midland-Guildford taking 3-63 from 10 overs.

Walters, fresh from coaching WA at the Australian Country Cricket Championships earlier this month, alongside Tim Armstrong took the game apart in pursuit.

The pair smashed the ball to all parts in a remarkable unbeaten stand of 230.

Walters hammered 154 not out hitting 10 sixes during his innings. Armstrong hit 113 not out with 10 fours and five sixes.

The entertaining partnership guided Midland-Guildford home with three overs to spare.

The result lifts the Swans up to finals contention in eighth with four rounds to play.
