WAFL grand final: Falcon Chris Keunen’s final flight

Justin BianchiniJoondalup Times

Sunday’s WAFL grand final at Optus Stadium will be retiring West Perth ruckman Chris Keunen’s 206th and final game.

And the 34-year-old’s family will be there cheering him on – wife Anna, children Xavier (5) and Hayley (3), and parents Barbara and Peter, who will be flying in from Victoria.

Anna’s seen all but a few games since they came over as graduate teachers from Melbourne to join the Falcons.

More than 200 games later and having both entrenched themselves in Perth and the teaching profession – Chris teaches Year 5 at Madeley PS and Anna Year 6 at Spring Hill PS in Tapping – how would Anna be feeling on Sunday?

“Emotional for sure; proud too,” she said.

The clash with the unbeaten Subiaco will be Chris’ third grand final appearance for West Perth and a chance to win his second premiership with the Falcons.

“I’m confident they can win. If they bring the right attitude and right pressure, they can definitely take it to them,” Anna said.
