WEST Perth premiership coach Bill Monaghan has received WAFL life membership.

The club nominated him a few months ago and word came through from the WA Football Commission last week.

“It’s a great honour,” he told a pre-match function on Saturday at Joondalup Arena which doubled as a tribute to club legend Mel Whinnen.

“Congratulations Mel on your 2018 AFL Hall of Fame induction.

“You get to meet wonderful people at football clubs and I’ve had the good fortune of interacting with Mel over a number of years.

“It’s not only what people say about his football ability but as a person he’s just wonderful.”

Monaghan is out of contract at the end of the season. The club wants to retain him and he has indicated he would like to continue at West Perth.

The Falcons have so far raised $140,000 since going into voluntary administration .

A memorabilia auction on Saturday raised $12,000.
