WAFL: West Perth prepares to face another side on the rebound after big loss to Subiaco

Bill MonaghanJoondalup Times

FOR the third straight week, we are coming up against a team that is on the rebound from a big loss to Subiaco.

Swan Districts were terrific in the first quarter against the Lions, but then received a touch-up, which has been a familiar result when it comes to Subiaco this season.

Like our last two opponents – East Perth and South Fremantle – we’ll expect Swans to turn it around at Bassendean Oval on Saturday after a heavy defeat to the league leaders.

The Royals and Bulldogs both overcame us after they lost to Subiaco so we’re well aware of the danger of a team on the rebound.

Swans had two handy players miss last week in Jarrad Blight and Brayden Noble, who kicked five goals between them in Round 2, so we expect they might return.

And former AFL player David Ellard played his first game of the season so he’ll be looking to work into some form against us.

With rain forecast, the weather also has to come into consideration when we look at our match-ups.

Our team won’t be set until we see the conditions on Saturday morning.

I was disappointed in the chances we missed to win against the Bulldogs in the final minutes of the match at HBF Arena on Sunday.

It was terrible to see us give away a 50m penalty at a crucial stage in the last quarter; we need to be better than that.

That said, it wasn’t the sole reason we lost, there were plenty of other things we did wrong in the last couple of minutes.

Tall forward Michael Lourey was unlucky to be omitted against South Fremantle and he’s a chance to return this week.

He did a fantastic job in the reserves to kick four goals and got better as the game progressed.
