Ward had already secured the title from wins in the first two events at Yallingup and Mandurah so he could afford to take a back seat as Albany's Noah Symmans won the final leg of the series in tricky but consistent conditions.
Events manager Justin Majeks said organisers had made the right decision to hold the contest at Trigg.
"We decided to move the event from Scarborough Beach north to Trigg to utilise the more shapely banks on offer," he said.
Marmion bodyboarder Michael Sumner finished the event fourth behind runner-up Ben Veitch, of Margaret River, and Mandurah's Jordan Ihms.
