THE Joondalup Falcons are reserves champions of the WA Women’s Football League for the first time in nine years after defeating the Coastal Titans on Sunday.
The minor premiers finished the season with the major prize in a 7.4 (46) to 4.6 (30) victory at Leederville Oval.
Joondalup coach Paul Beaver praised his side for their hard work throughout 2016.
“We all get around each other, we all work hard for each other on and off the field,” he told wawfl.com.au.
Led by best-on-ground winner Brooke Hongell, Joondalup recovered from a 15-point deficit in a scoreless first term to win by 16 points.
The Falcons still trailed at half time, down by eight points, but kicked five goals in the second half with Coastal managing just one in the last quarter.
The Titans’ Hayley Dixon kicked three of her team’s four majors as the match’s leading scorer.
The triumph capped off a dominant season for Joondalup, which lost just two of 14 games for the season.
The premiership was Joondalup’s first since 2007.
