A 121-year-old locomotive has been saved from the scrapheap after City of Kalamunda councillors voted unanimously to approve the full remediation of the G118 locomotive, platform and tracks at the Kalamunda History Village.
The council will now seek expressions of interest from qualified contractors to undertake the remediation work.
The locomotive has been shrouded in plastic since October 2016 after workers discovered friable asbestos.
