THE Kalamunda Kweenz will honour one of their respected leaders with a tribute match this weekend against the Cottesloe Seagulls to raise money for cancer research.
After Kalamunda Women’s Rugby Team captain Neesha Barrett was diagnosed with cervical cancer and unable to play this season, the Kweenz wanted to support their well-respected leader.
The tribute match will be held at the club’s home ground in Forrestfield this Saturday, with money raised donated to the Cancer Foundation.

READ NOWTeam manager Toni Clarke said although Barrett’s diagnoses meant the 27-year-old was unable to play, she continued to have an integral role with the club.
“Neesha has received treatment during the season but we are fortunate enough to have her back coaching and mentoring our players, and we’re hoping she can participate in the tribute game,” she said.
“She is an inspiration to our group with her go-hard attitude and has great courage and determination.
“We have a close-knit team and our ladies felt they needed to do more for their captain and came up with the idea for the tribute game at the start of the season.”
Held in high regard within the club and the broader rugby community, Barrett was a member of the Kala Kweenz who won the Rugby 10s Tournament in Bali in 2017 and was selected for the Western Force Women’s Squad for 2018.
Throughout the day there will be raffles to help raise money for the foundation and after the tribute game players’ jerseys will be auctioned off and a social event to follow.
