LESMURDIE resident Ena Billings celebrated her 102nd birthday last week with family and friends at the Sunshine Park aged care facility.

Ena Billings was born in East London on June 15, 1916, a year dominated by World War I.

She married husband George in 1940 and said they had a long, loving and happy marriage until he died in 1985.

“The major events that stick with me are migrating to Australia in 1987 and my 100th birthday,” she said.

“I moved into Sunshine Park just before my 101st birthday and before that I was still walking daily, volunteering for Meals on Wheels and generally keeping busy.”

Ena said she still enjoyed walking around Sunshine Park before resting in her recliner chair for her beloved soapies in the afternoon.
