Midland Gate Shopping Centre begins healthy food coaching courses

Sally McGlewMidland Kalamunda Reporter

MIDLAND Gate has started a new series of healthy food coaching sessions and the first is run by Kaye Waterhouse, nutrition, wellness and fitness expert.

Ms Waterhouse is an accredited yoga teacher, wellness coach, nutrition expert and a mum to a toddler.

She has also opened Vital Beat in Midland, a wellness and hip-hop yoga studio on Padbury Terrace, which is proving popular with local yogis keen to explore the moves to music. Ms Waterhouse is passionate about sustainably produced, locally sourced and, where possible, organic food.

She said she loved supporting local farmers, producers and retailers and putting the joy back into cooking through the development of healthy and nutritionally balanced meals that appealed to the whole family.

But Ms Waterhouse also admitted that she was not perfect and was partial to the odd chocolate, coffee and wine.

She has joined with Midland Gate to develop a series of recipes with products sourced from the centre’s fresh food retailers.

Kaye’s Kitchen will conduct in-centre events and share nutrition and wellness tips with shoppers and keen recipe collectors throughout the year.

In the first class, Ms Waterhouse demonstrated how to cook sang choi bao and zucchini fritters, among other healthy eating choices such as zesty lemon and ginger bliss balls.

She is also offering a one-on-one wellness package to one lucky Midland Gate customer throughout the year.

Cooking class participants received a show bag with a pass to a free class at Vital Beat hip-hop yoga school, along with other goodies from the shopping centre donated from the local retailers.

Over the next 12 months, Kaye and interior designer Kristie Hill will keep Midland Gate visitors up-to-date on all the latest fresh food and home styling trends.
