IT is pet registration time in the City of Kalamunda with residents reminded that dog and cat registrations expire on October 31.

All dogs over three months and all cats over six months must be microchipped, registered and have contact details on their collar.

Chief executive Rhonda Hardy encouraged all pet owners to be responsible after numerous cases of dog attacks and wandering pets.

“Ensuring your dog is wearing its collar and registration tags at all times, and its microchip data is up-to-date, means if your dog is lost and found by a ranger they will be able to notify you,” she said.

“When it comes to safety most dog attacks can be prevented by taking basic precautions.

“Make sure your gates and fences are secure and able to confine your pet to your property, and lock gates to prevent people opening them without your knowledge.

“When out and about, please keep your dog on a leash and ensure it’s held by someone capable of controlling it.”

Registration forms are available at www.kalamunda.wa.gov.au/rangers or at the City Administration office.
