Preparation is underway for the WA Chrysanthemum Society’s annual show, which starts at Forrestfield Forum & Marketplace on May 5.

Society member Ralph Coombes said the show incorporated the State Chrysanthemum Championships, ensuring a high standard and wide variety of chrysanthemums would be on display.

“It’s very spectacular,” he said.

“I’ve been to shows in England and elsewhere and I think this is the best.”

Mr Coombes has been part of the society for more than 40 years and said his interest started as a child when he helped his father grow chrysanthemums.

He said his Maida Vale property was “crammed” with flowers.

“You’re always doing something different with them and there’s always something to do,” he said.

“I just love it.”

Judging occurs on Thursday and flowers will be on display during centre hours until the end of Saturday.

Flowers will be available to purchase on Saturday afternoon.
