BRAND MHR Madeleine King has fiercely rejected a controversial maiden speech by Senator Fraser Anning that praised the White Australia policy, labelling it ‘reprehensible’.

Ms King likened the speech to a lie and said its only purpose was to spout hatred and create division.

“Yesterday a Senator elected to the Australian Parliament on the force of 19 votes used his first speech in the Senate to attack the Australian way of life in the most reprehensible manner,” she said.

“He spoke of an Australia that I do not know. He lied. He sought to sow fear and create division in the most successful and harmonious multicultural nation on the face of the earth.

“The electorate of Brand, the cities of Rockingham and Kwinana, and all of Western Australia are wonderfully ethnically diverse.

“There is great strength in our diversity and all that live in Australia benefit from this strength.

“I want all the people that I represent to know that I will fight against all attacks on the Australian multicultural way of life, especially those carried out by parliamentarians.”
