Cricket: poor results mar weekend for most Kwinana Cricket Club sides

KWINANA Cricket Club saw some unfortunate results over the weekend, with second grade going down in the one-day grand final, while one-day Fs put together a team effort to claim its third victory of the season.

Second grade travelled to Melville Reserve as underdogs in the one-day grand final against the undefeated Hilton Palmyra.

Hilton Palmyra won the toss, putting Kwinana in to bat.

Its innings started poorly with two very early wickets but Jordan Mews worked hard to recover the innings making 19 before edging one to the keeper.

At 4-25 Kwinana couldn’t recover and was bowled out for 65.

The total was never nearly enough to prevent Hilton Palmyra from claiming the flag.

Fifth grade took on table-topping Cockburn on day 1 of their round 13 match at Goodchild Reserve.

Kwinana was put in to bat and struggled from the outset losing regular wickets.

Steve Nichols put together a solid innings of 46 but Kwinana was still bowled out for 87.

At stumps Cockburn was at 5-53 requiring a further 34 runs for victory.

One-day Fs returned home to take on Hilton Palmyra in round 16.

Kwinana was put in to bat and started with a solid 33-run partnership before Vishal Patel took over and made 41, working with the lower order to post a total of 7-145.

Kwinana’s bowlers were on top from the start and with David Buchanan taking 3-18, bowling out Hilton Palmyra for 127.

One-day Cs had a shocker against Armadale, bowled out for 107 with Nicholas Tolotti top scoring with 43.

Armadale chased it down comfortably ending the innings on 8-133.
