Garage Sale Trail leads City of Rockingham to award

Vanessa SchmittWeekend Kwinana Courier

The Garage Sale Trail was held nationally on Saturday, October 22 and is Australia’s largest reuse and community event.

More than 130 individual garage sales and group sales were held in the City of Rockingham, including a pop-up garage sale at the Mary Davies Library and Community Centre.

Mayor Barry Sammels said the City was committed to promoting the reuse and recycling message and was proud that residents had embraced the day in such big numbers by selling or finding some “good stuff”.

“Last year was the first year the City was involved in the Garage Sale Trail, when we also received a Council Excellence Award for Outstanding Achievement,” Cr Sammels said.

“To follow it up with another successful year is a testament to the community members who have got behind the concept of reducing landfill by either recycling their unwanted belongings at a garage sale, or visiting a garage sale to grab some bargains.”
