GOLDEN Bay green thumbs were rewarded for making their community more aesthetically pleasing.

The winners and runners-up in the Golden Bay Beautiful Gardens Competition received vouchers and gift cards as well as bragging rights.

Golden Bay Progress Association president Peter Carter said residents were pleased with their inaugural competition.

I hope we see bigger and stronger fields next year,” he said.

“Major winners received product vouchers and gift cards to the value of $300.

“Runners-up were awarded a $100 gift card.”

Carmen and Lee Simpson moved into their new home in August 2015 and worked hard to get their garden established.

“We’re ecstatic with the win,” Mrs Simpson said.

She said they decided on a historic railway theme for their small garden, which runs the length of their block.

“Lee did the heavy lifting with the railway sleepers for the garden beds, and it looks really lovely,” she said.

“We even managed a vegie patch as well as the flowers.”
