Golden Bay Estate park and playground set to deliver fun for all

A NEW park and playground is coming to Golden Bay, delivering new facilities for both kids and adults.

Designed by landscape architects EPCAD, earthworks for the new 6000sq m park in the Walk precinct of Golden Bay Estate started last month.

The landmark new playground features large distinctive coloured building blocks, which lead to the new open space being dubbed “colour block park”.

While the giant blocks are a standout, there will be much more on offer in the new park including shade structures, a large lawn kick-about area with a dedicated yoga deck, and seating area for adults.

For the kids, there will be three trampolines, a tunnel slide, climbing structures, a rope bridge and sand play areas.

There will also be a life-size block tractor.

A Perth company is pre-fabricating the giant building block components to order, some with steel frames and panels, others made from heavy duty plastic.

They will be transported and erected on site with other playground equipment and structures.

Will Gumbley, from EPCAD, said the park should be ready in the first quarter of 2017.

“You won’t see much for a while at the site,” Mr Gumbley said.

“But it will all happen very quickly as we start to assemble the components.

“For the moment, we’re doing the earthworks, followed by walls, paths and reticulation.

“There’ll be lots of native trees and garden beds.”

Mr Gumbley said well-established ficus trees would be planted around the perimeter of the park.

“In coming years, they will grow to be very large and they’ll become great landmarks,” he said.

“This park will be a first for Perth.

“It will be quite colourful, and we hope the yoga deck will attract resident groups to the park for their workouts.”
