HMAS Stirling Walk to Work Day: annual causeway walk draws crowd

Participants walked or ran from the base front gate to the sports oval covering a distance of 7km.

On arrival at the sports grounds, base personnel and their families were treated to breakfast and lots of fun for all ages, including balloon animals, train rides, abseiling and a photo memory booth.

A Department of Defence spokeswoman said the activity encouraged personnel to discuss mental health issues and take action in promoting the wellbeing and development of all navy people.

“The day was a roaring success with many enjoying the beautiful sunshine and amazing water views with their families, friends and co-workers as they crossed the Causeway,” she said.

The Causeway Classic race was also held on the day, with the overall winners Able Seaman Amy Elkington and Able Seaman Ashley Moore both taking the top spots for the second year in a row.
