Kwinana siblings create fruit-tastic alternative to chocolate advent calendars

Victoria RificiWeekend Kwinana Courier

TWO Kwinana siblings have naturally sweetened chocolate advent calendars by creating a book that will count down the 24 days to Christmas using fruit recipes.

Instead of receiving a chocolate a day, the book “The Fruit Advent Calendar”, will provide a different type of fruit and associated recipe each day in the lead up to Christmas.

The book, written by 16-year-old Jasmine Nairn and her 14-year-old brother Kevin, will be the siblings’ first published cookbook.

A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Smith Family’s literacy programs in Kwinana.

Miss Nairn said they were expecting between 40 to 60 people to attend the book launch.

“We are quite pleased the Mayor of Kwinana, Carol Adams, has graciously accepted our invitation to be the guest speaker on the launch day,” she said.

“We started this book as a school project and from there it has developed into what it is now.”

The book will launch on August 30 at the Darius Wells Library and Resource Centre in Kwinana.
