Kwinana residents will have the opportunity to learn more about the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) when engagement and information sessions are held.

Community and Mainstream Engagement teams from the National Disability Insurance Agency(NDIA) have recently commenced an extensive schedule of events to support and inform participants, as the State continues to benefit from the roll out of the NDIS.

There will be separate morning and afternoon community information sessions in Kwinana, helping participants to implement their plans and self-manage their funding.

Hundreds of participants in the NDIS and their friends, families and carers have turned out to attend various engagement and information sessions across Perth and regional WA to learn about planning, implementation and self-management of NDIS funding in recent weeks.

Sessions were held in Rockingham last month.

NDIA State Manager WA, Nicole O’Keefe, said the self-management information sessions were for participants, plan nominees or child representatives who are self-managing their NDIS funding, as well as people who would like to understand what is involved in self-managing NDIS funding.

“Self-management is when you manage your NDIS funding,” she said.

“It gives you the flexibility and choice to decide what supports you buy to meet your plan goals, and lets you think creatively about how you can use your funds to best meet your needs.

“We’re really pleased with the attendance and positive feedback from participants at the event held recently in Rockingham, which will soon arrive in other suburbs and regional centres across the state so everyone can access the information they need to reach their goals.”

The NDIS provides Australians under the age of 65 with a permanent and significant disability the supports they need to live an ordinary life and to increase their social and economic participation.

The NDIS has been rolling out progressively across Australia, and formally began its roll out in WA on July 1 last year.
