Overnight storm leaves hundreds of residences around Perth without power

HOMES around Perth are without power after wild wind, rain and hail battered the metropolitan area last night.

Western Power has reported several outages around Perth as a result of the weather, with 1500 residents in the Kwinana area without power.

Kelmscott (279 residences) and Beckenham (192 residences) were also hit with power outages due to the weather.

At this stage, the estimated restoration time is unknown.

There is more rain on the way today, as the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) issued another sever weather warning and predicted a very high (near 100%) chance of showers.

The BOM also said there was chance of a gusty thunderstorm during the morning and afternoon, while damaging winds are possible.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services have issued a ‘take action’ for the Perth metropolitan area today and urged people to remain vigilant.

They advised people outdoor to shelter away from trees, powerlines, storm water drains and streams and use extra caution on the roads.
