Port Kennedy 24-year-old finalist in WA Young Achiever Awards

Mr Rees will be vying for the Catholic Education Western Australia Youth Leadership Award category.

He is a registered nurse who received the Murdoch University Academic Excellence Award in 2015. Mr Rees was also selected to mentor first-year nursing students.

As the SPRINrPHEX relations officer with the National Rural Health Student Network, Mr Rees liaises with indigenous festival managers and runs workshops for indigenous high school students.

He volunteers at the hospital and with St John Ambulance and is a Youth Reference Group member for Headspace.

Another one of his achievements is being accepted to study medicine at the University of Notre Dame.

The awards aim to encourage, acknowledge and reward the valuable contribution young West Australians make in their local communities.

The Catholic Education Western Australia Young Leadership Award acknowledges young people who have demonstrated outstanding leadership within their schools, organisations and businesses.

They are people who exemplify courage, the power of a positive attitude and are skilled at empowering and collaborating with others to achieve successful outcomes.

The awards ceremony takes place at Parmelia Hilton on Friday, May 13.

One of the six category winners will be named the ultimate winner, the 2016 Western Australian Young Achiever of the Year.
