HAVING started the day that the doors opened at the Red Cross Op Shop in Shoalwater 10 years ago, volunteer Joy Power is calling time.
Joining her is fellow volunteer of close to 10 years Shelia Meechan, and both were treated to a farewell afternoon tea at the store on August 10.
Both said they weren’t leaving by choice.
“We would stay longer if we could,” they said.
Fellow volunteers and friends gathered, recounting fond memories of the pair and how they left their mark on the store.
Red Cross spokeswoman Barbara McMullan said the store had recently introduced a children’s section and with the pair leaving there were volunteering opportunities.
“We’ve started getting fantastic new stock and are really focused on meeting the needs of the community at Shoalwater with a range of items for the savvy fashionista to the budget-conscious shopper,” she said.
“Our inclusive environment is perfect for volunteers who are looking for friendship and who want to gain experience in the retail sector.
“Training is provided and no prior experience is necessary.
“Best of all, volunteering at a Red Cross Shop is a wonderful way to give back to vulnerable communities here and abroad.”
She said they were looking for new store volunteers to assist during the week and on Saturdays.
To volunteer, call into the store at Shop 14, Shoalwater Shopping Centre, Safety Bay Road, or visit Red Cross.
