SOUTH Metropolitan Region MLC Phil Edman has praised police for their crackdown on the sale of synthetic drugs in retail stores in Rockingham, Mandurah and other suburbs.

Police reported that after a five-month investigation, 314 drug charges were laid against 18 individuals and police seized more than 4500 items.

“I would like to congratulate the police officers that were involved in this investigation for their diligence and their commitment to protecting citizens from exposure to these poisons,” Mr Edman said.

“The results from these police investigations are highly encouraging, and demonstrate the effectiveness of the Misuse of Drugs Amendment (Psychoactive Substances) Act 2015.

“I am committed to ensuring that the people in our communities are protected from the dangerous effects of these synthetic drugs and that families do not have to be confronted with the, sometimes, deadly consequences of their abuse.”
