THE Westport Taskforce released the Westport: What you have told us consultation report in April to outline community feedback received about the development of a planned Outer Harbour in Kwinana.

More than 200 submissions were received during the project’s first official comment period.

Based on the feedback, Westport identified 10 packages of research categories to be pursued for the Westport Strategy, including future port facilities such as location, size, operating model and timing.

Transport Minister Rita Saffioti said consultation and communication would be integral to the development of the Westport Strategy.

“There is clearly strong community interest in finding better solutions for WA’s freight and port related transport issues,” she said.

Westport chair Nicole Lockwood said consultation was critical to because the community, who would be impacted by the recommendations, should have a voice.

“We are absolutely transparent about the feedback we have heard and will be considering, as we develop the strategy,” she said.

“I am meeting with interested stakeholders daily and will continue to engage with the community to ensure we get this planning right.”

The next phase of public consultation on the Westport Strategy will take place later this year.
