The City of Perth has awarded RSLWA a $150,000 grant to help the national organisation commemorate Anzac Day later this month.

RSLWA is set to present five events in the Perth CBD between April 24 and 25, including sunset and dawn services at Kings Park, a gunfire breakfast at Government House Gardens and the St Georges Terrace Anzac Day march.

After the annual march, a free inaugural Family and Mateship event with interactive military vehicles, commemorative activities, live music and food trucks will be held at Langley Park.

“The board is really excited to hold a new event this Anzac Day for veterans and their families,” RSLWA State president Duncan Anderson said.

“The Mateship and Family event will be held at Langley Park after the Anzac Day Parade as a place for veteran families and friends to congregate, meet and relax.”

Lotterywest has also given RSLWA a $1.6 million grant.

It is set to support almost 90 Anzac Day-related commemorative services at RSL branches and community venues across the State.

“It’s a great honour to again be supporting RSLWA in acknowledging and commemorating our veterans and serving personnel this Anazac Day,” Perth Lord Mayor Basil Zempilas said.

“Those of us working for and representing the City of Perth believe in a life dedicated to the service of others, and there’s no greater example of that then the commitment shown by our service women and men.

“It’s a huge credit to RSLWA that as the years go by, the ways we commemorate Anzac Day grow in strength and numbers.”
