A multicultural service supporting migrants and refugees is set to have almost $6000 worth of fees waived.

The City of Bayswater council unanimously voted to waive $5743.48 in facility hire fees for Multicultural Services Centre WA’s aged care and 10-week Life Skills program, which is held at the Morley Sports and Recreation Centre.

The decision was made at last month’s council meeting.

MSCWA is a non-for-profit group in the City of Bayswater supporting culturally and linguistically diverse communities while addressing the needs of migrants and refugees.

It has members from Indian, Italian, Vietnamese, Chinese and Burmese communities and also offers support services to people with disabilities. It is looking to create community events for the aged care community.

“We have been supporting culturally and linguistically diverse West Australians for over four decades and always aim to address the unmet needs of migrants and refugees,” a MSCWA report said.

“We are dedicated to supporting our disability participants on their life journey.”

The decision to waive the fee was in line with the city’s waivers, concessions and definitions for fees and charges policy, which seeks to waive fees or grant concessions to support non-for-profit community groups.

The City of Bayswater will be advertised as a partner in future MSCWA’s programs and events.
