Bull Creek pharmacy ‘changing lives’ for locals and carers with tailor-made medication packs

Gabrielle Becerra MelletPerthNow - Melville

A WA pharmacy chain is offering a free but “little-known” service to help customers stay on top of their medication and locals say it could relieve stress for full-time carers.

Blooms The Chemist stores in WA have taken the price tag off the handy service that organises medications into tailor-packed weekly containers that visually display how and when to take the medicines.

For local Gillian, who did not want her surname published, the service has partly-relieved some of the full-time care she gives to her father who lives with dementia.

“I used to have to remember to give my father his medication, which he takes four times a day,” she said.

“Although I had a manual system in place, I often worried that I had forgotten to give him a dose, or that I had accidentally doubled up.”

Blooms The Chemist Bull Creek pharmacist and owner Anthony Masi said the medicine packs were designed for customers to take the right dose at the right time.

“Missing a dose of medication can be stressful and doubling up can be dangerous, so this service makes it easy for our customers to stay on top of their health,” he said.

“Most people don’t take their medication as they should and it can be difficult to remember when to take what, especially if you are on a range of different prescriptions.”

Local Gillian said the service meant she could access an incredible “local support system” while she cared for her father.
