Mandurah warehouse for new bacteria-reducing invention

Jessica NicoMandurah Coastal Times

A WA man’s new invention, which aims to reduce the amount of bad bacteria collecting on sponges, will be manufactured in Mandurah.

Glen Plewright was struck with an idea after he watched a news segment investigating the high amount of harmful bacteria held within a run-of-the-mill kitchen sponge, levels which the average person was oblivious to.

From that idea the i-Soak was born, a range of products including a sponge soaker and a spray and wipe kit that aims to significantly reduce the amount of bad bacteria remaining on a sponge.

Managing director Brett Saggers, who lives in Mandurah, said it was a combination of the news report and a personal experience that pushed Mr Plewright to bring i-Soak into existence.

“Just after that program was aired a friend’s baby boy was on the kitchen floor when mum was wiping down the table, she left the room for a few minutes and when she returned the baby was sucking on the sponge,” he said.

“The mum did not think it was a problem but within hours later she was in hospital with her baby boy who was fighting for his life.

“After this event, Glen realised there was a major concern regarding the cleanliness of the average home and kitchen, so Glen saw an opportunity to remedy this situation and set about enlisting the aid of specialists to design the product and related consumables that today have become the i-Soak range.”

Mr Saggers said they believed Mandurah was an ideal place for their warehouse with the added benefit of employing local workers.

He said it was something all households should consider owning.

“The i-Soak sponge soaker is unique, in fact it’s the only of its kind in the world, and it’s designed to protect you, your family and friends from harmful bacteria which gathers in everyday sponges, dish cloths and wipes,” he said.

“i-Soak sponges are eco-friendly, they are cellulose which is 100 per cent wood pulp and the scourer pads are sisal fibre, which is extracted from the sisal plants, so they are durable, 100 per cent Biodegradable and are sustainably harvested from natural sources.”
