Canning Shakespeare competition finals on this Saturday

THE finals of Canning MHR Andrew Hastie’s Canning Shakespeare competition are on this Saturday at Mandurah Performing Arts Centre.

Twelve students from around Canning will perform monologues from the works of Shakespeare before a panel of judges.

Prizes include tickets to Bell Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar and prize money up to $1000.

This year’s finalists include students from Frederick Irwin Anglican School, Austin Cove Baptist College, Pinjarra Senior High School and Mandurah Baptist College.

Mr Hastie said he looked forward to the performances which were always of a high standard.

“I’m really looking forward to his year’s competition,’’ he said.

“Each year we get to showcase the talent and passion of young people from the Peel region.

“This year’s finalists are of a very high standard – it’s going to be an enjoyable morning.

The performance and morning tea are free.
