Morning tea to help diabetics

Attendees received expert advice from health experts from optical, pharmaceutical, podiatry, general medicine and diabetes education backgrounds.

The morning tea was organised by pharmacists Fiona Gardiner and Rachael Liddell.

Ms Gardiner said she hosted the event to raise diabetes awareness.

Another aim was making sure people diagnosed with diabetes understood their condition and the risks of not managing it properly.

‘It’s absolutely vital that everyone is educated about diabetes and understands the symptoms, risks and how to manage the disease.’

Diabetes can cause serious health complications if it is not managed properly.

‘Diabetes management is not just about blood sugar control,’ Ms Gardiner said. ‘It’s also about living a healthy lifestyle so exercising regularly and eating properly.

‘That’s why we invited health practitioners from different fields to present at the morning tea.’
