Murmuration opens at CASM

MURMURATION, a collaborative exhibition by local artists Carol Clitheroe, Jacq Chorlton and Tich Dixon has opened at Contemporary Arts Space Mandurah (CASM).

Murmuration is the phenomenon of intricately coordinated patterns created when hundreds and sometimes thousands of birds fly through the sky.

Through the concept of murmuration, the artists have worked together examining their creative journey, pushing and pulling ideas and forces and researching techniques until they are finally resolved into artworks of unique beauty and meaning.

Artist Jacq Chorlton said there are many issues to examine in todays’ contemporary society, with scientific research enriching and educating our society. However, we are also experiencing social and environmental dangers and the cynicism and denial of the outcomes of this research. This gives us plenty of scope for artistic dialogue and response.

Carol Clitheroe’s works feature clay sculptural forms, primarily female busts and figures, each connecting to either oceanic or earth bound environments.

She uses recyclable materials as adornments and accessories, which add clues to her stories.

Tich Dixon is passionate about the conservation of our environment and takes her inspiration from the elements of the natural world and its embedded histories.

She has created a series of intimate miniatures and larger scaled sculptures from objects she has found, including metal, glass and driftwood.

Jacq Chorlton is widely known for her award winning creativity and technical skill associated with Wearable Art Mandurah.

Her works centre on bird and fish life, created primarily from repurposed and recycled materials including wire, papier mâché and milk bottles.

A free artist talk for the exhibition will be held at CASM on Sunday, July 14 at 2pm.
