IN that post-Christmas period when the kids are bored and the weather unbearable, what better place to be than an air-conditioned theatre with a musical the whole family can enjoy.

Once Upon a Mattress is based on Hans Christian Andersen’s tale about the princess and the pea.

Due to an unhappy curse, King Sextus is unable to speak and his terror of a wife Queen Aggravain has taken over.

Keen to keep her son Prince Dauntless single forever, Aggravain decrees that only a princess who can pass a very unfair test may marry her son and no-one else in the kingdom may marry before he does.

Lady Larken and Sir Harry are very disturbed by the fact since Lady Larken is pregnant and in pressing need of a wedding service.

But Sir Harry discovers an amazing princess, Winnifred the Woebegone.
