Andrew Hastie appointed to parliamentary committees

CANNING MP Andrew Hastie has been appointed to three parliamentary committees.

Mr Hastie been named in the House Standing Committee on Employment, Education and Training, as well as being appointed chair of both the Parliamentary Joint Committee on Intelligence and Security (PJCIS) and the defence sub-committee of the Joint Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade.

Mr Hastie said these duties would play an important role in his work in parliament.

“(The committees) task is to review proposed legislation and bills, as well as providing oversight to various aspects of the Australian Public Service,” he said.

“Fundamentally parliamentary committees ensure the Australian people are being effectively served by their laws and bureaucracy.

Mr Hastie will also sit on three Coalition Backbench Policy Committees which review proposed legislation before it is presented to the government party room for consideration.
