AUSTRALIA’S biggest Beach Netball Festival returns to Mandurah on April 7-8 with players converging on Doddie’s Beach from all over Australia.

It’s the second year the event has been run in Mandurah with more than 500 players expected to attend the weekend competition.

Beach netball is played on a half court, with five-a-side, no positions, no thirds, no shoes and the ability for anyone to score.

The event will include a junior and senior competition and the exclusive Beach Netball Shoot Out.

The senior competition is open to women and mixed teams over 18 and the junior competition will be split into under-18s, under-15s and under-13s.

All teams will compete in a one day round robin tournament including finals with the seniors on Saturday playing for the giant cheque and James Cook University Cup, and the junior round robin will be on the Sunday.

Mandurah Mayor Rhys Williams said he was excited to welcome competitors and spectators to Australia’s biggest beach netball event and it was a great opportunity for young people to see great players in action and meet their sporting heroes.

Sunshine Coast Lightening inaugural Super Netball Championship players Kelsey Browne is a Beach Netball ambassador.

“The beach and netball are a match made in heaven and I couldn’t be more excited to be involved,’’ she said.

Team registrations open on February 1 with interested players encouraged to enter their teams early.
