But 18-year-old author Hayden Selfe has instead decided to view it as a blessing, often escaping into the fantasy world in which he writes.

It was in this world that the Golden Bay teenager met the heroine of his debut fantasy novel, Hatchling Heroes, which is due to be released next month.

Hayden has since written two more novels in the series.

Book synopsis
