Beauty more than skin deep

U.G.L.Y stands for Understanding, Generous, Likable, You and funds raised by contestants in the competition go to the Leukaemia Foundation.

This funding gives regional families a place to call home in the city during their blood cancer treatment.

Savannah is fundraising from behind the bar at the Silver Sands Tavern and has plenty of support from her regulars.

‘It’s more than just tins on the bar though. I’ve organised events, I’m thinking of a raffle and I’m holding a sausage sizzle at the Good Guys on September 29,’ she said.

‘It’s a good cause and good fun. The regulars are all donating and putting their shrapnel in the tin.’

In two weeks Savannah has raised $785, but her goal is to raise $1000.

‘I’ve had lots of support; I’ve been allowed to put tins on the bar and I’m organising shirts for the other girls,’ she said.

‘It’s funny though, I get comments on the shirt. People say ‘but you aren’t ugly’.’
