Last week Mr Lester faced the cruel side of humanity when he found a pelican with an arrow through its middle.

Mr Lester found the pelican near Soldiers Cove on Monday. He followed the pelican for more than two hours in his kayak before he could capture it.

The injured pelican was taken to Halls Head Small Animal Clinic, where the arrow was removed.

Unfortunately, the pelican bled out and had to be put down.
