And the rest is history.

Mandurah couple Stan and Rosalie Richards, who retired to Mandurah in 1986, celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary earlier this month. In his younger days, Stan (91) excelled at tennis, athletics, boxing and football.

He took up bowls in 1985 and won the veteran singles four times at Mandurah Bowling Club, the last time aged 83.

Among other activities, he writes poetry and is the author of The Bibbulmun: Land of Many Breasts.

Rosalie (87) has a twin sister Daphne, and is a well-known local artist. She plays indoor bowls and accompanies her husband, along with her sketchbook, when he goes beach fishing in summer.

The couple attribute much of their successful marriage to regular pots of tea, a good book, keeping busy and the importance of family and friends.

They have four children, eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
