Bullet holes for ex-friend

Rachel FennerMandurah Coastal Times

A BARRAGUP man was fined $800 in Mandurah Magistrates Court on Friday for shooting a friend's car after they had a falling out.

Alan Damien Hall towed his friend's Suzuki to his property in August last year.

As Hall has a mechanical background he told his friend (the complainant) he would fix the broken down car on the proviso that his friend would provide payment.

Hall and his friend had a falling out, so he sent the complainant 10 to 15 text messages asking him to pick up the car.

He also passed messages between mutual friends urging the complainant to pick up the car.

In the first week of February this year, Hall placed a bale of hay inside the car and used it as target practice.

Hall has a gun licence and is allowed to shoot on his property.

While Hall was away the complainant attended the property to remove the car and discovered the bullet holes.

Magistrate Leanne Atkins said she did not consider damage to a vehicle to be trivial.

She said the circumstances in this case though were "unusual".

She granted Hall a spent conviction as he works as a rigger and needs a criminal clearance.

He was fined $800 and ordered to pay $160 in costs.
