Call for snake warning signs at Falcon

FAUNA relocator Allison Dixon is calling for snake warning signage at the beach in Falcon.

She was called out to relocate a western brown snake from the front of the cafe on Spinaway Parade on Thursday.

Ms Dixon gets about three calls to collect snakes from the area each week.

She said snakes lived in the dunal system, around the pine trees, the reserve and the toilet area.

Ms Dixon is concerned someone will be bitten by a snake. She is worried it might be a child or an elderly person.

She has been campaigning for signage for eight years.

“What will it take for the City of Mandurah to react?” Ms Dixon said.

A City of Mandurah spokeswoman said the City was actively working on addressing snake warning signage.

She said the City’s 2018-19 snake signage program would start in mid-October.

“With the help of local fauna and wildlife champions, locations for snake signage have been identified in coastal, estuarine and bushland areas,” the spokeswoman said.
