A post-mortem examination is expected to take place today (Tuesday).

Police said a member of the public contacted police at 10.30am on Saturday and reported there appeared to be a body floating in the canal behind Genevieve Court.

Police attended and travelled onboard a boat to the location after which they confirmed it was the body of a man.

After assessing the body, local detectives requested Major Crime Squad and forensic officers attend to conduct an independent assessment.

Due to the length of time the body appeared to have been in the water, a more thorough assessment of the body was required to determine if there were any suspicious circumstances surrounding the man’s death.

As the cause of death is yet to be determined, the Major Crime Squad will continue to investigate the death and it will be treated as suspicious until it can be determined otherwise.
