Carcoola Primary School students wash cars to raise funds

CARCOOLA Primary School Year 5 and 6 students are hoping Saturday is warm and sunny because they could get pretty wet.

The students will be hard at work washing cars in the Shire of Murray car park to raise funds to ensure school camp fees are affordable for all families.

Teacher Sharon Hunt came up with the fundraising idea and this is the fourth year the car wash has been held.

Each year, around $1500 has been raised, reducing the cost of the camp by $150 per student.

The students have sent out letters to local businesses and called on others.

Their sponsors include Coles, Mandurah-Murray May Day and the Shire of Murray, which has waived fees for use of the car park.

“The kids are really looking forward to it and there has been plenty of community support,’’ Ms Hunt said.

“But I have warned them it is no picnic and could be quite exhausting.

“It can get really busy with four cars in the bay and others waiting in a queue.”

The highlight will be the soaking from students that Ms Hunt expects at the end of the day.

The car wash runs from 9am to 2pm and costs $15, including coffee or tea and a cake.
