THOSE of the canine persuasion are usually praised for loyalty to humans and saving lives.
And Mave the Maine Coon is doing her bit to make cats everywhere look good.
Most nights, Mave likes to sleep with her owner Angela.
One of those nights, not long ago, Angela’s smart phone began sparking and smoking.
“Mave woke me making the most ear piercing noise,” Angela said.
“She came and threw the phone on my chest.
“Then Mave picked the sparking and smoking phone up in her mouth and took off down the hallway.”
The phone had burned Angela’s chest and when she tried to pick it up from the hallway it was too hot to touch.
Angela had to use paper and her pillow to throw it in the sink.
“It definitely would have caught on fire,” Angela said.
“Mave had her head in the water bowl afterward.”
Neither Mave nor Angela sustained permanent injuries from the burning phone.
Maine Coons are known for their kitten-like temperament and are called gentle giants.
Unlike other cats, Mave likes water and has been known to take dips in the pool.
Like Garfield, her favourite food is lasagne.
“She has her own time schedule – if I’m not up in time for work, she’ll come and wake me up,” Angela said.
“She’s smart for a cat.”
