Mandurah MLA David Templeman was thrilled with the announcement that TAFE fees for selected high priority qualifications will be cut by 50 per cent from January 1 through to December 31.

Students who complete courses including Individual Support, Disability and Introduction to Disability Care will have the skills for jobs across the disability sector, including those linked to the new National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

Other courses affected by fee cuts include those relating to Metronet, defence, hospitality and tourism, which Mr Templeman said will result in more local students getting the skills they need to take up high demand jobs.

“It will make Tafe more affordable for people wanting to study, learn new skills and take up jobs in high demand areas like aged care and disability services,” he said.

“During the election campaign in 2017, I spoke with many young people living here in Mandurah, who were struggling with the costs of Tafe or reconsidering their study options because of cost.”

The course fee rate per hour for 34 target priority qualifications will be reduced by 50 per cent, and the maximum annual fee students will pay is capped at $400 for concession students and youth and $1200 for non-concession students.

These cuts will take course fees back to similar levels to 2013.
